ABOUT The Pig's Ear Tavern

The Pig’s Ear Tavern – A Trent Alumni Legacy in the Heart of Peterborough

A beloved tradition for generations of Trent University students and alumni, The Pig’s Ear Tavern is back and better than ever in downtown Peterborough. Originally opened in 1865 as the St. Maurice Saloon and famously rebranded in the 1970s, “The Pig’s Ear” has long been a cornerstone of student life, live music, and local culture.

After closing in 2017, the tavern was revived by Trent alumni Steve Robertson (Psychology, ’93) and Ashley Holmes (Business Administration, ’06), who teamed up to restore this historic gathering place. Today, The Pig’s Ear Tavern continues its legacy as a welcoming hangout for students, alumni, and the wider community.

Located at 144 Brock St, the tavern offers a vintage, cozy atmosphere with weekly live music, trivia nights, and games—perfect for reconnecting with friends or making new memories. You’ll find plenty of good vibes, a signature selection of drinks (come back for a 50!), and classic tavern snacks (obviously, the pickled eggs are a fav). Guests are welcome to bring their own food or order in, making it a flexible spot for any occasion.

With strong ties to Trent University, The Pig’s Ear Tavern is committed to keeping the tradition alive for current and future alumni. Whether you’re reliving your university days or discovering the tavern for the first time, The Pig’s Ear is your home away from campus.
